Learn how to float a card

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

Do you know what magicians string is? It is the black spider
web like string, it is real thin but very strong. Buy some at
a magic store and while you are there pick up some magicians
wax. These two items along with any deck of cards will “do the
trick”.

This illusion will make it look like you have full control over
the cards. You can throw the card away like a Frisbee and it
comes back to you. You can even catch the card between your
hand with out touching the card and make it hover between your
hands while it spins.

Here is the trick….
Tie or tape one end of the string to the back of the ear piece
on your glasses. Pull the string over your shoulder down to
about your belly button, cut the string there.

Take a tiny piece of the magicians wax and press it onto the
center of a playing card on top of the end of the string you
just cut. The card is now attached to your glasses.

Keeping your hands close to your body, you can throw the
card like a Frisbee away and a bit to the right. The card will
circle around to the right and come back to you.

You can do this 5 or maybe 8 times while talking about how
it is important for a magician to know how to control cards.

Once you finish with the last throw say the more control the
magician has the better he can do magic.

Throw the card one last time, don’t catch it in your hand!
Let the string land between your thumb and pointer finger
about 5 or 6 inches above the card. Your free hand should
be palm up 5 or 6 inches below the card.

It will look like you have stopped the card in mid flight
and caused it to hover between your hands.

After a few seconds, grab the card with your bottom hand.
Scratch the wax off of the back of the card and you can let
some one from the audience give it a try.
